Review: Regatta Backmoor 3-in-1 Jacket

This been my all-time favourite waterproof. It's heavyweight enough that it's tough and stands up to being stuffed in a rucksack or tied around my waist without getting creased like some of the "packable" ultra-lightweight jackets do.

The hood packs away into the collar which is nice and tidy great during windy weather when you don't want a hood acting as a sail. I found the attachment of the waterproof to the fleece part fiddly so I've mainly used the outer part by itself as a waterproof jacket.

The fleece is quite warm and I found it really useful as a quick layer for cold, dry weather, but mostly not with the waterproof apart from on really cold days. For layering with the jacket, I prefer a collarless, zipless pullover fleece (such as the Decathlon MH20) that is lighter and a sleeker fit. These pack down to nothing in a rucksack and are easier/lighter to tie around your waist when the temperature increases and you need to shed a layer.

I've used the Backmoor waterproof every spring, summer and autumn for several years and even took it on a hiking trip to New Zealand as my only coat because I knew it would be reliable.

We'll update the review once they've had another season or two of wear to see how they last, but so far, so good.
