The walk begins near the school and leaves the village to cross fields where Treroosel Mine once provided employment. The route then criss-crosses the trackbed of the North Cornwall Railway which connected Delabole slate quarry with the ports of Padstow and Wadebridge as well as the rail network into England. The return to St Teath is via Newhall before finally passing through the centre of St Teath via the pub and church.

Highlights

  • Wildflowers along the footpaths and lanes in spring
  • Less well-known part of North Cornwall

Considerations

  • The route includes a stile over a wall with slate footholds.
  • A quarter-mile stretch of the route is along a B road connecting the footpath to other rights of way. Although traffic is usually fairly light, it can sometimes be quite fast.
  • The area around Roche Rock is marshy in winter.
